Abstract

Burnout is a condition of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged work-related stress. Islamic Education (PAI) teachers are particularly vulnerable due to complex job demands, high moral expectations, and intensive emotional interactions. This study employs a literature review with a historical approach to examine burnout using Christina Maslach’s framework, which includes emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. The findings reveal that burnout among PAI teachers is influenced by excessive administrative workload, sustained emotional pressure, limited institutional support, and an unconducive work environment. These factors contribute to decreased teaching motivation, weakened pedagogical interactions, and declining professional performance. The study emphasizes the importance of strengthening organizational support, managing workload proportionally, and enhancing emotional competencies as key strategies to prevent burnout among PAI teachers.
