Abstract

The Independent Curriculum is the latest policy of the Ministry of Education and Culture which aims to provide freedom and flexibility to educational units in designing learning according to the needs of students. SD Negeri 021 Sungai Kunjang, Samarinda City as the 1st Generation School of Mover is one of the early implementers of this curriculum. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at the school, focusing on the challenges, strategies, and impacts of learning on students. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify implementation patterns and obstacles faced. This study fills the gap in empirical research related to the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in elementary schools, especially in the East Kalimantan region, while presenting a multi-stakeholder perspective that is rarely raised. The novelty of this study lies in the comprehensive approach that integrates the experiences of teachers, students, and principals in one study. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum increases students' creativity and learning independence, although there are obstacles in teacher understanding and limited resources. The application of thematic learning and authentic assessment are the main supporting factors for success. The Independent Curriculum has made a positive contribution to improving the quality of learning at SD Negeri 021 Sungai Kunjang, but requires ongoing support from the government and the community to be optimal.
