This literature review investigates the professional challenges and strategies of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in madrasahs, particularly in the context of Generation Z learners. Characterized by their digital fluency, critical thinking abilities, and preference for interactive learning experiences, Generation Z presents a unique set of expectations that traditional pedagogical approaches often fail to meet. The review identifies several critical challenges faced by IRE teachers, including the digital divide between educators and students, a lack of readiness for experiential learning, and the necessity to contextualize religious material within students' social and cultural realities. To address these challenges, the review recommends several strategies to strengthen the professionalism of IRE teachers. Enhancements in digital literacy and innovative pedagogical training, the development of contextualized teaching modules linking Islamic values to contemporary issues, the implementation of reflective-dialogic approaches in classroom discussions, and fostering collaborative networks among educators are highlighted as essential strategies. By adopting these recommendations, educators can create a more engaging and relevant educational environment that aligns with the needs of Generation Z while instilling a deep understanding of Islamic teachings. Ultimately, this study underscores the importance of adapting Islamic education to meet contemporary demands, thereby contributing to the ongoing discourse on educational reform in Islamic contexts. By doing so, IRE teachers can better prepare students for the complexities of modern society while nurturing their moral and ethical development as future leaders.
