Abstract

This study explores the educational philosophy of Muhammad Abduh, a prominent Islamic reformer, and his significant role in renewing Islamic education. The central issue addressed is the dualism between religious and secular education, which Abduh sought to eliminate through an integrative approach. The research aims to analyze Abduh’s ideas on educational reform, particularly regarding educational goals, curriculum development, teaching methods, and gender equality in education. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research method, this study examines Abduh’s works and relevant scholarly literature to understand the depth and context of his reformist ideas. The findings indicate that Abduh’s educational thought emphasizes the balance between intellectual and spiritual development, the inclusion of modern sciences in religious institutions, and the promotion of critical thinking through rational teaching methods. His advocacy for women's education and curriculum reform reflects a progressive vision that remains relevant in the face of contemporary challenges. Overall, this study concludes that Muhammad Abduh’s educational philosophy offers a holistic framework for integrating religious values with modern knowledge to advance Islamic education in the modern era.
